— The field of potential candidates for Janesville City Council has swelled from seven to nine, Deputy Clerk-Treasurer Dave Godek said Friday.

Three of seven council seats will open up in April, and incumbents Craig DeGarmo, Paul Williams and Tim Wellnitz are stepping down.

Candidates were allowed to start circulating nomination papers Dec. 1.

The two newest candidates are:

** David Henke, 37, of 1327 Hawthorne Ave., a salesman for Werner Electric Supply.

** Kelly O’Brien, 33, of 2309 Kellogg Ave., a server and bartender at Ground Round.

They join Karl Dommershausen, Tom McDonald, Kevin Bishop, K. Andreah Briarmoon, Richard Ellingson, Billy R. McCoy and Yuri D. Rashkin.

To get their names on the ballot, each candidate must collect 200 to 400 valid signatures from Janesville residents. Nomination papers are due at the city clerk’s office by 5 p.m. Jan. 2.
