— The 2007-08 high school girls gymnastics season got off to a good start Saturday for Janesville Craig.

The Cougars finished second in their own eight-team invitational with 128.725. The co-op team of Kenosha Bradford/Tremper won with 130.125. Janesville Parker finished eighth with 104.2.

“Obviously, there are things we need to polish up on, but all in all I thought this was a real good start for us,” Craig coach Jean Welch said. “As a team, we stayed on the (balance) beam and did a nice job on the floor exercise and on vault.

“Katharine won the floor exercise, and just missed a medal on the beam. Ally Hall and Lauren Moran also picked up medals, so that was good to see.”

Hall was second on vault and third on floor exercise, while Moran was fourth on vault and sixth on floor exercise.

Freshman Erika Whitson had Parker’s best finish with a third on vault.
