— Town of Beloit budget

The Beloit Town Board approved the town’s 2008 tax levy Monday night.

The town will have to tighten its belt next year because it’s building a new police station and recently hired three new officers.

Some things the town won’t buy in 2008:

-- The town will go without some capital expenses, including a new plow truck and tanker truck, $436,500

-- Paying an outside group to help pick a site for a new fire station, $20,000

-- Paying a consultant to design a Smart Growth plan, $53,000
