Parkview ends Evansville's Rock Valley streak

Evansville High’s long reign of terror in Rock Valley boys basketball is over—at least for the time being.


Orfordville Parkview shot 46 percent from the field Friday night to score a 55-43 victory over Evansville, ending the host Blue Devils’ 31-game conference winning streak.


The Blue Devils’ last Rock Valley loss was Feb. 10, 2005, when Walworth Big Foot handed Evansville a 68-62 defeat. Evansville won its final three Rock Valley games that season and 14 straight in each of the past two years before falling in this season’s conference opener.


It was Parkview’s first win over Evansville since a 65-48 victory in the 2002-03 season.


Parkview (2-0) broke away from a 25-25 halftime tie with a decisive 18-7 third quarter in which six players scored for the winners. The Vikings made 23 of 51 field-goal attempts for the game.


Alex Mumm, the only Viking in double figures, scored 17 points.


Evansville (2-1) got a game-high 18 points from Matt McElroy, the only Blue Devil in double figures.

n Big Foot 44, Brodhead 43—The Chiefs (2-0) built a 10-point fourth-quarter lead and held on for a victory in a Rock Valley opener at Walworth.


The Cardinals (2-1) turned the ball over on the final possession with less than a second remaining.


Big Foot’s John Keeler led all scorers with 13 points. Andy Swain scored 12 to lead Brodhead.

n Clinton 56, Palmyra-Eagle 40—Clinton’s offense came alive to give the Cougars (1-2) a victory in their Rock Valley opener.


The host Cougars, who scored only 49 total points in two nonconference losses, broke away from Palmyra-Eagle (0-2) in a 23-12 third quarter.


Three double-figure scorers provided the spark for Clinton. Andrew Eliszewski led the way with 15 points, followed by Grant Oldenburg with 14 and Keifer Cary with 12.


Caleb Laufer paced Palmyra-Eagle with 13 points, including three of the Panthers’ seven three-point goals.

n Edgerton 56, Turner 25—Bryan Gregory scored 13 of his game-high 25 points in the third quarter to pace the Crimson Tide’s rout.


Turner scored in single digits through the first three quarters. The Trojans went made only two of their first 20 shots.


Edgerton’s Derek Carrier added in 15 points as the Tide improved to 3-0 and spoiled Turner’s season opener.
