Intoxicated driving arrests
ASHLEY J. WINCHEL, 30, of 1936 Dupont Drive, No. 6, Janesville, at 2:08 a.m. Saturday at Highway 51 south of Nicolet Street, Janesville, on suspicion of OWI, operating a motor vehicle without insurance, operating after suspension, non-registration of an auto and inattentive driving. Janesville police say Winchel hit a traffic sign, struck a utility pole, severing that pole, all before hitting a second utility pole. Winchel was admitted to Mercy Hospital, Janesville, Saturday for injuries and discharged Sunday.
BURGLARY reported 1t 8:22 p.m. Monday in the 400 block of North Main Street, Janesville. Six or seven bottles of soda were stolen from the business.
SHANNON K. KVISTAD, 35, of 998 Quail Lane, Janesville, with second-offense possession of narcotic drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia. Janesville police say on March 7, they responded to the Quail Lane address where Kvistad’s relatives live for a reported heroin overdose. A relative who called police said Kvistad regained consciousness and left before police arrived, although police ended up finding heroin and numerous uncapped hypodermic syringes.
CRYSTAL J. BONANNO, 35, of 142 Grove Ave., Genoa City, with strangulation and suffocation, battery and disorderly conduct, all with domestic abuse assessments. Village of Genoa City police say on July 7, Bonanno hit and choked a woman she knows.
NATHANIEL D. HERMAN, 24, of 147 N. Fraternity Lane, No. 3, Whitewater, with a repeater count of armed robbery. Whitewater police say on July 11, Herman used a knife to rob McCullough’s Pharmacy, Whitewater, of pills.
TIMOTHY D. KANE, 45, of Waukegan, Illinois, with possession with intent to deliver a prescription drug, resisting and obstructing an officer with use of a dangerous weapon. Walworth County sheriff’s deputies say on July 2, Kane was a passenger in a vehicle they pulled over. Deputies say Kane kept resisting orders to not reach into his pants, where deputies ended up finding a knife and a bag containing drugs that tested positive for the presence of oxycodone and fentanyl.
NEJLA J. KEEN, 26, of Burr Ridge, Illinois, with party to felony retail theft. UW-Whitewater police say Keen and another person stole 20 “Essentials of Corporate Finance” textbooks, worth a total of more than $4,000.

Carolyn A. Kroes, 64, Janesville, died Friday at St. Mary’s Hospital, Madison. No services are planned. Schneider Funeral Home & Crematory, Janesville, is assisting the family.

Quinton W. Nauer, 20, Janesville, died Saturday at St. Luke’s Hospital, Duluth, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, Beloit.
Shirley A. Smedema, 79, Janesville, died Saturday at home. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Turning Point Church, Janesville. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Henke-Clarson Funeral Home, Janesville, and 10 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the church.
Stephanie J. Smith, 73, Beloit, died Tuesday at Beloit Memorial Hospital. Private services will be held at a later date. Brian Mark Funeral Home, Beloit, is assisting the family.
Ryder Ian Zwanzig, 4 months, Elkhorn, died Monday at home. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at Haase-Lockwood & Associates Funeral Home and Crematory, Elkhorn. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
Janesville police are looking for the owners of property discovered in a city park after an attempted burglary to a nearby garage early Tuesday morning.
Officers were called at 2:15 a.m. to the 600 block of Chartier Street on the city’s south side after a homeowner reported two people dressed in black trying to enter the rear door of the home’s attached garage, according to the press release.
The homeowner yelled at the people, and they ran away, according to the press release.
Officers searched the area with a police dog but were unable to locate the would-be burglars.
Officers found several purses, an airsoft gun, a GPS unit, MP3 player and several bottles of alcohol nearby in Marquette Park, according to the release.
Police have been unable to locate all of the owners of the recovered property.
