EDGERTON—An incumbent and challenger will face each other April 1 for the Ward 2 seat on the Edgerton City Council.

Dave Thomas, who's served a pair of terms on the council, faces political newcomer Patrick Lyons.

Thomas said he enjoys his time serving on the council and wants to keep doing so. Lyons said he wants to branch out in trying his hand at local politics.

The Gazette asked Thomas and Lyons what they felt the city's most important goals should be in the next few years and why they wanted to be on the council.

Q: Why are you running for the council?

Lyons: I thought this would be a nice place to get a little more involvement in the community and make a little bit of a difference in our town.

Thomas: I enjoy serving on the council. I think I have a fairly good grasp of the way we like to run the city and the way we're running it. And I want to keep it going on an even keel the way we are right now.

Q: For you what's the big issue in Edgerton right now?

Lyons: I mean with any small town like Edgerton, you're going to have issues with businesses coming and going in the downtown. There are empty storefronts, and I'd like to see them occupied. I'd like to see them be a little more utilized.

Thomas: We've got to generate funds so that we can improve our public works facilities and to generate money to buy new city trucks and new equipment. And to keep working on facilities for older folks, senior citizens in this town. Simple as that.
