ORFORDVILLE—Five candidates are running for three seats on the Orfordville Village Board.

Incumbents Russell Rucker, Kathy Schindler and Eugene Shoemaker are seeking re-election, and former board member Terry Morris and newcomer Gary Phillips also are running.

Age: 50

Address: 601 E. Church St., Orfordville.

Job: Real estate agent for First Weber Group

Education: La Farge High School, 1981.

Community service: None

Elected posts: Orfordville Village Board, 2006-08 and 2010-12.

Major campaign issues: Orfordville faces several infrastructure issues: an aging sewer plant, water and sewer mains and street repairs. We need to spur growth of new business and homes to increase our tax base, as well as work with current businesses to improve what we have.

Age: 47

Address: 108 E. Hamblett St., Orfordville.

Job: Realtor with First Weber Group Janesville.

Education: Business management with University of Maryland (Europe), 1988-92.

Community service: American Legion, AMVETS, Wounded Warrior Project.

Elected posts: None.

Major campaign issues: Economic development and a downtown revitalization plan, along with our aging infrastructure are some of my issues. I believe it is time for some new life on the board with some creative thinking, accountability and someone willing to make the tough decisions, and I believe I am that person!

Age: 52

Address: 311 N. Mowe St., Orfordville.

Job: Union painter for Schmelzer Paint

Education: Thomas Roberts High School, Decorah, Iowa, 1980.

Community service: Village board of appeals, planning commission and police commission.

Elected posts: Orfordville Village Board, 2010-present.

Major campaign issues: I've sought alternatives and prioritized our needs. I am pro-business, approved the Burtness land deal, in exchange for the old facility, a new convenience store is going in, along with a business going into the industrial park this spring. Voted for updates to our park among other items.

Age: 62

Address: 404 Gifford St., Orfordville.

Job: More than 20 years in accounting and budgeting, mostly in building trades.

Education: Bachelor of business administration in operations management, UW-Whitewater, 2002, more than 12 college-level accounting classes, some at master's level.

Community service: Former volunteer in Service to America to help runaways and their families, Family Promise, Neighbors Helping Neighbors, volunteered in local schools.

Elected posts: Orfordville Village Board, finishing first term.

Major campaign issues: Keep Orfordville a great village for families and retirees. Keep spending down by thinking outside the box and by researching the issues. I neither own nor work for a company that holds a contract with the village, so I only gain when other citizens gain such as by lowering taxes.

Age: 70

Address: 206 Mowe St., Orfordville.

Job: Retired from Warner Electric Brake and Clutch, Roscoe, Ill.

Education: Orfordville Parkview High School, 1962.

Community service: Past commander and 47-year member of Post 209 American Legion, Orfordville; 40-year member of Legion color guard

Elected posts: Orfordville Village Board for 25 years.

Major campaign issues: I have been on the village board for most of 25 years. Everything that has happened in that time I was involved in. If the voters think I have done a good job for them, they will support me again.
