Gary Joseph Pliner (Chub's), age 73, of Janesville, passed away Friday, May 30, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Janesville, WI. He was born on Dec. 14, 1940 in Fort Dodge, IA, the son of the late Lester and Evelyn Pliner. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964. He worked at Hormel Foods for 23 years, retiring in 1989. Gary devoted much of his life to helping youth achieve their goals through foster parenting troubled youth, and through the sport of amateur boxing. Gary was a proud member of USA Boxing and was fortunate to be able to work in multiple roles including: Coaching, working as the The North Midwest Region Coordinator, The Junior Olympic Coordinator and the President of USA Boxing WI. He also had the privilege of serving as the Coach Director and the Vice President of USA Boxing at the national level and most recently served as President of Future Olympians Boxing Association (FOBA). In addition, Gary was the founder and owner of Chub's Gym in Janesville, which is now carried on by his dear friend, Frank Lebugan. Gary was also the Co-Founder and Chairman of the Board for the International Boxing Organization (IBO) as well as the owner of Battle Promotions.

Gary is survived by his wife, Patricia Pliner; his brother, Bruce Pliner (Mary Ann) and their children, Sarah and Angie; eight children: Russell Pliner (Shelley), Michelle Coppernoll (Dale), Scott Pliner (Jody), Kim Pliner (Lamar), Steve Pliner, Jason Brunges (Jenny), Jason Schultz and Dustin Powell; sixteen grandchildren: Samantha, William, Seth, Caleb, Nathan, Zach, Noah, Levi, Ryan, Jordan, Elyjah, Stephanie, Damon, Chad, Gidian and Galilee.

A Celebration of Gary's Life will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2014, from 5 until 8 p.m. at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 1800 East Racine St, Janesville, WI, 53547, with Sharing of Memories beginning at 7 p.m. For online obituary and registry: www.schneiderfuneraldirectors.com
