Toppers to open June 9 in Janesville
JANESVILLE—A Whitewater-based pizza chain plans to open in Janesville next week.
Toppers Pizza will open Monday, June 9, in the new strip center in the Kmart outlot near the intersection of Old Humes Road and Milton Avenue.
Pete Vincent will manage the Janesville store, the chain's 33rd in Wisconsin.
Vincent joined Toppers as a delivery driver in 2010 while attending Northern Illinois University. He worked his way up to assistant manager and was asked to relocate to Whitewater to head the restaurant next to the Toppers headquarters.
After proving himself in Whitewater, Vincent will be given the reins of the Janesville store.
Founded in 1991 in Whitewater, Toppers has 60 restaurants in 10 states.
The company said it sets itself apart with pizzas that start with made-from-scratch dough and real Wisconsin cheese and are finished with toppings such as French fried onions, oven-roasted tomatoes, mac 'n cheese, tater tots and fresh-cut vegetables.
In 2014, Entrepreneur Magazine ranked Toppers as one of the top 500 franchises in the United States. Nation's Restaurant News declared the brand as one of the 50 breakout chains of the year, and Toppers received a No. 58 spot in Pizza Today's top 100 pizza companies.
