H.S. softball: Brodhead wins regional title

Brodhead’s softball team jumped on Orfordville Parkview early Thursday.

The Cardinals plated four first-inning runs on their way to a 7-6 road victory in a WIAA Division 3 regional final.

Brooke Boegli pitched a complete game for Brodhead, allowing 11 hits while striking out eight batters and walking one.

Parkview never led but scored two runs in the sixth to make it 7-5 and got another in the seventh before its rally was halted.

Brodhead will take on Poynette in a sectional semifinal at Darlington at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

• McFarland 4, Edgerton 3 (9)—Jenna Quelle hit a walk-off solo homer with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Spartans a WIAA Division 2 regional final victory over visiting Edgerton.

Quelle’s homer was her second of a game that saw five in total.

Courtney Boss pitched 8 1/3 inning for the Crimson Tide and went 2-for-4 at the plate.

Erica Richardson and Megan McNett hit home runs for Edgerton, which finished 14-8.

McFarland is 22-2 and moves on to face Delavan-Darien in a sectional semifinal at Beloit Turner on Tuesday.

• River Valley 2, Monroe 1—River Valley’s Laura Schmidt hit a two-run single to center field in the sixth inning to upset the host Cheesemakers in a regional final.

•  Burlington 5, Badger 0—The Badgers’ Cinderella run in the Division 1 playoffs was ended at Burlington.

The Badgers, who upset Milton earlier in the week, notched just three hits in a shutout loss to fifth-seeded Burlington.

Burlington moves on to face top-seeded Westosha Central, which beat Beloit Memorial 12-0 in five innings.
