Four Janesville golfers advance to sectionals
John Milner is one step closer to returning to state.
The Janesville Parker junior fired a 4-over-par 75 Tuesday to finish second at the WIAA Division 1 Beloit Regional.
Justin Meseberg of Burlington was medalist with a 74 and led the Demons to the team title with a 323 total.
Lake Geneva Badger, Beloit Memorial and Milton outlasted multiple weather delays to advance as teams to the Watertown Sectional on Wednesday, June 4.
Although both Parker and Janesville Craig failed to qualify as teams, two players from each school advanced to sectional play. Parker’s Bobby Wyss joined Milner thanks to an 83, while Craig’s Nolan Moran (77) and Troy Lipker (84) also advanced. Lipker advanced by parring the second hole of a four-man playoff that also included Parker’s Jordan Manthey.
“I’m really happy to have both John and Bobby move on, but it meant a lot to Jordan,” Parker coach Bob Eicher said. “Those three guys have been the cornerstones all year. It’s bittersweet. We’re glad to have two moving on but sad we’re not taking him with us.
“And ideally the whole team would have moved on. To miss out by two strokes is tough.”
Joe Meyer, the Badger South Conference tournament champion, had an 83 to help lead the Red Hawks to a sectional berth. Teammate CJ Curtis also shot 83.
In Division 2, defending state runner-up Edgerton finished third at the Evansville Regional to advance to the River Valley Sectional.
Brooks Johnson shot 77 to lead the Crimson Tide, while Hunter Pipik carded 79.
Walworth Big Foot’s John Halma, Clinton’s Rudi Gonstead and Carter Ostrander, along with Brodhead’s John Rudyanski, advanced as extra qualifiers.
In the Division 3 regional at Mineral Point, Orfordville Parkview finished fourth to earn a berth in the Markesan Sectional. Christian Hobson shot 81 to lead the Vikings.
