Harms paces Whitewater boys to regional track title
Whitewater senior Brett Harms won the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs to help the Whippets boys track and field team capture a WIAA Division 2 regional title in Clinton on Tuesday.
Harms won the mile run in 4:42.63 and the 3,200 meters in 10:13.28. Whitewater also got victories in the 400-meter relay, from Joe Bullis in the 300 hurdles (40.10) and from Keagen Stonewerth in the long jump (20-7.75). With 135.5 points, it topped Jefferson by 20.5.
Clinton’s Randy Popanz won the high jump with a 6-foot leap and Brenden Taylor won the shot put with a throw of 50 feet, 8 inches.
Lakeside Lutheran captured the girls regional title. Whitewater’s Liz Mielke won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs, while Kailey Reynolds won the 100.
Clinton’s Heather Buckler won the shot put.
In Division 1, Kenosha Indian Trail won the boys regional title and Kenosha Tremper the girls at Lake Geneva Badger.
Alex Martinez won the 1,600- and 3,200-meter races for the Badgers, who also took three of the four relay titles on the boys side.
Verona hosted a Division 1 regional that included both Janesville Parker and Craig, but due to timing issues, the results were not made available Tuesday night. The Gazette will have full coverage and results in Thursday’s edition and on gazettextra.com.
The Division 2 regional featuring multiple area teams at McFarland was postponed until today due to weather.
