H.S. regional softball: Boss leads Edgerton to victory

Courtney Boss pitched a one-hitter to help the Edgerton softball team advance to a WIAA regional final.

Boss struck out 12 and walked none, allowing only a fifth-inning single, and the Crimson Tide topped visiting Evansville, 1-0, in a regional semifinal Tuesday.

The Tide got their lone run in the bottom of the third inning. Jana Downing reached on an error, moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and reached third on a ground ball. Kellan Schmidt then singled to left field to drive Downing home.

Edgerton will face today’s winner between top-seeded McFarland and Edgewood in a regional final Thursday.

•  Delavan-Darien 13, East Troy 3 (5 innings)—The Comets will attempt to win their second straight Division 2 regional crown Thursday.

Delavan-Darien’s Morgan DeLara went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and a triple, and Brooke Boss was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, as the Comets piled up 13 hits.

Starter Jenna Speth allowed three hits, striking out eight and walking six to earn the victory.

Delavan-Darien awaits the winner of a postponed game between Beloit Turner and Elkhorn.

•  Badger 6, Milton 5—The Red Hawks ran out of time in their comeback bid as the 13th-seeded Badgers sprung the road upset.

Badger struck for three runs in the third and fifth innings to build a lead. Milton rallied with two in the fifth and three in the sixth but fell in a regional semifinal.

Frankie Bobula was 2-for-4 with a double for the Badgers, who will play Burlington or Waterford—postponed Tuesday—in a regional final Thursday.

Junior Maddie McCue was 3-for-4 with a triple for the Red Hawks.
