Summer: Time for festivals
DELAVAN — It would seem that the long winter is finally relinquishing its grasp on the region, and just in time for festival season.
Every year, Walworth County is host to a variety of entertaining, interesting and fun festivals and events. These happenings not only provide locals with engaging family-friendly activities, but also draw in residents from outlying communities and give them a reason to stop by and visit us.
“Our county's festivals have a fantastic draw. I think both local residents and residents from neighboring communities, even from the Chicago and Milwaukee area, look forward to these festivals,” said Kathleen Seeberg, executive director of the Walworth County Visitors Bureau. “They definitely showcase what the area has to offer. We have unique things like corn and brat roasts. What's more Wisconsin than that?
“This weekend is the start of the festival season, and people really look forward to it.”
In addition to providing entertainment, many of the festivals serve to support organizations that are in turn supporting the community and thereby performing a sort of double duty.
“Many of the festivals are actually put on by nonprofit groups so by attending and supporting the festivals, you're helping support what is needed in our local communities,” Seeberg said. “Whether it's the Lions Club or the Kiwanis or whoever, by supporting them you are helping them raise funds that they use to keep running.”
In addition to knowing that she's supporting a good cause, Seeberg also personally enjoys just being able to fill practically every weekend in the summer and fall with something unique, fun and family-friendly. No matter your interest, there's something here in Walworth County to accommodate it, she said.
Seeberg has optimistic projections for tourism this festival season.
“Tourism has been increasing,” Seeberg said. “Every year we've seen a growth and so we expect this year to be the same, especially with the rough winter we've had. We believe that this summer will be even better.
“I think a lot of people feel like it's time to get out and get moving.”
Although there are many events to enjoy countywide this summer, we've highlighted five festivals you might not want to miss this year:
