Sun Prairie overcame a 7-1 deficit in the final three innings to defeat visiting Janesville Craig 8-7 in Big Eight Conference softball Thursday.

“It was a tale of two games,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said. “We won the first three innings and they won the last three.”

Craig had 13 hits, led by Hayley Hackett's three-hit performance. Kayla Kaufman had two hits, including a double.

Craig scored three times in the second inning and four times in the third to seemingly take command with a 7-1 lead.

“We had nine hits in the first three innings and in the last four with had 1 per inning,” Bayreuther said. “They really started hitting the ball.

“I have to give them credit. They didn't die down after getting behind.”

Craig finishes 9-9 in the Big Eight. The Cougars play Waunakee at the Janesville Youth Complex this afternoon in a nonconference game.
