Beloit shooting leaves one dead, one injured

BELOIT--One man is dead, and another was injured in a shooting early Thursday in Beloit.

Beloit police said in a news release that Jeffrey Hardnett, 25, Beloit, was pronounced dead at Beloit Memorial Hospital. Police said he was shot multiple times and transported to the hospital by a private vehicle.

Police were dispatched at 12:45 a.m. to the 1400 block of Hull Avenue for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, they found spent shell casings.

Darius Kilgore, 26, Beloit, was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he was treated and released for a single gunshot wound to the upper chest/shoulder area, police said. Upon his release, Kilgore was arrested on a Rock County warrant for misdemeanor possession of cocaine and a probation violation.

The investigation is ongoing.
