Rodney J. Leeder, Evansville, WI (1926-2014)

Rodney J. Leeder, age 88, of Evansville, died Sunday May 18, 2014, at home. He was born on Feb. 27, 1926, in Evansville, the son of William and Gladys (Courtier) Leeder. Rodney joined the United States Army on Oct. 16, 1951. He served as a radio operator in the 35th Infantry Regiment in Korea, until he was wounded June 10, 1953. He also received the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, the U.N. Service Medal, and Combat Infantryman Badge. Rodney married Alice June Sperry on Oct. 16, 1948, at the First Baptist Church in Evansville, and she preceded him in death on May 12, 2012. Rodney and Alice farmed together for over 60 years and raised their family in the Evansville area. He and Alice liked to travel to Las Vegas and also to Ho-Chunk Casino to play the slots. He also loved playing card games with his friends.
Rodney is survived by his children, Randy (Carol) Leeder, Sr., Karen (Jerry) Binger, both of Evansville; five grandchildren: Roxanne Schneider, Kyle Schneider, Janeace (Clint) Radtke, Randy Leeder, Jr., Xavier Lindstrom; a great-granddaughter, Danika Leeder; a sister, Janice (Richard) Rasmussen of Evansville; two brothers, Jack (Marita) Leeder of Janesville, Lee (Carol) Leeder of Winchester, WI; two sisters-in-law, Therese Leeder of Cottage Grove WI, Barb Leeder of Beloit WI; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice; and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon on Thursday, May 22, 2014, at the WARD-HURTLEY FUNERAL HOME, Evansville, with Reverend Dr. Luke Bocher, Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Hill Cemetery, Evansville, with Military Rites provided by V.F.W. Post 6905, Evansville. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Thursday at the FUNERAL HOME. The family suggests memorials to Agrace HospiceCare in Rodney's name.
