American Transmission Company plans to rebuild a 20-mile, 69,000-volt transmission line from Beloit to Walworth.

The Colley Road-Brick Church Rebuild Project would replace aging wood transmission poles with steel poles and add new wires. Some of the infrastructure is more than 60 years old, according to a news release.

Spans between poles would be increased where possible to decrease the number of structures.

The project would run from Colley Road Substation in Beloit to the Brick Church Substation in Walworth, the release states.

The construction of the new Tiger Substation near Clinton also is included in the $40 million project. The substation would be built on about 10 acres owned by American Transmission Company, according to the release.

The Wisconsin-based company filed the project request May 15 and anticipates a decision from Public Service Commission of Wisconsin in the fall, according to the project webpage.

If the project is approved, construction would begin in 2015 and last until summer 2018.
