Sonja D. Anderson, Janesville, WI, (1952-2014)
January 6, 1952 - May 15, 2014
Sonja D. Anderson, age 62, of Janesville died peacefully at her home on Thursday, May 15, 2014 after a more than two year courageous battle with cancer. Sonja was born on January 6, 1952, in Gerolzhofen, Germany, the daughter of the late Gerhard and Hedwig (Zinser) Schrickel. Sonja met her husband, David, in Germany while he was in the service and they were married on January 18, 1972 in Germany. Shortly after they were married, they moved back to the United States, and over the years, Sonja worked at Owen Vending, Prent Corp. and PMT. More importantly, her greatest joy was staying home to raise her children.
Sonja was the perfect and loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend who always put everyone else's needs above her own. She had a big heart, and made everyone she met feel at home. Her warm and charming personality always welcomed guests into her home with a smile, and when they left she could be seen waving goodbye out the window. Sonja learned most of her English by watching soap operas and other programs on television. She was a great cook who enjoyed planning family gatherings. Her contagious laugh, thoughtfulness and unconditional love will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband of over 42 years: David, of Janesville, WI, and her three children, of whom she was very proud: Patrick (Shelly) Anderson of Janesville, Corey (Jennifer Poehls) Anderson of Madison, WI, and Tina (Evan) Tilleson of Milton, WI; three grandchildren whom she adored and loved to spoil as grandmothers should: Erik, Madilyn and Mariana; and her sister: Monika Schrickel of Germany. She is further survived by her sisters and brothers in law: Janice Hudson; Jeanette & Irv Olson; Linda Oganda; Nancy Young; Elmer & Marian Anderson; Ann & Gerard Mageland; Carol & Dennis Murati; Doug & Carla Anderson; Patricia & Roger Clapper; Kathy & Donnie Grubbs; Chuck Anderson; Steve & Karen Anderson; Greg & Karen Anderson; many nieces and nephews; her dear childhood friend: Maria Ludwig of Germany; her very close friends: Marie Sagen, Marilyn Grigsby, Elaine Moore and Mary Danto; the family dog: Bambi; and her "grand dog": Cooper, both of whom she loved to play with. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers in law: Tom Hudson, Tom Anderson and Uma Oganda.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the WHITCOMB - LYNCH FUNERAL HOME, with Rev. Jerry Amstutz officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM and again on Monday morning from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
A very heartfelt thank you to all of the doctors, nurses and staff at Mercy Health System, UW Carbone Cancer Center and the Staff at Mercy Hospice for their wonderful care and support. All of you are true angels!
