Parker golfers finish above .500 in Big Eight
The Janesville Parker boys golf team toughed out its final Big Eight Conference match Monday—or at least as much of it as the players could.
Lightning delayed the event mid-round, and rain eventually washed out all of the players’ back-nine progress at the Janesville Country Club, shortening the event to nine holes.
Parker shot 172 to top Madison West by 14 strokes. The Vikings, who went 1-8 in Big Eight play a year ago, closed out the season with a 5-4 record.
“I’m very pleased to have a winning record in conference,” Parker coach Bob Eicher said. “I really wanted to get some 18-hole scores, but it just wasn’t going to happen. Even if we had waited (out one last rain storm), the greens were already saturated.”
Parker’s Bobby Wyss carded the low nine-hole score, shooting a 39 that had him on pace for his best round of the year.
“Before we had the first delay, they were doing well,” Eicher said. “Some putts caught up with them, but I was really excited about Bobby. He had a really tough day Friday at the Tri-City but really bounced back.”
The Vikings play at the La Follette Cup at Madison’s Yahara Hills on Thursday.
