Janesville Craig’s baseball team didn’t bring its best effort with it to league-leading Sun Prairie on Tuesday.

The Cardinals plated 10 runs in the first two innings and breezed to a 13-2 Big Eight Conference victory in five innings.

Sun Prairie is 11-1 and tied with Janesville Parker in the league standings. Craig fell to 10-6 overall and 6-6 in conference.

“We didn’t come to play today,” Craig coach Vic Herbst said. “We were kind of like a deer in the headlights. They got after us and stuck it to us.

“When you play teams like this, you’ve got to come to play.”

The Cardinals scored 13 runs on 13 hits in just four innings of offense. Junior first baseman Michael Brekke went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI.

The Cougars’ lone runs came from second baseman McCauley Cox’s two-run single in the top of the third inning.

Craig will attempt to get back on track Thursday at Beloit.
