The Janesville Craig boys golf team closed out its Big Eight Conference season by winning two of its three matches in a quadrangular at Glen Erin on Tuesday.

The Cougars shot 350 to beat Madison East by two strokes and Sun Prairie by three. Middleton, which went undefeated in league play, posted a 314 to earn the sweep.

Craig, whose Nolan Moran posted the low round with a 5-over 76, finished with a 3-6 mark in league play.

“The competition we were facing today, Nolan was very happy to be the medalist,” Craig coach Domanic Wiegel said. “The goal for everyone was to beat the guy from East and the guy from Sun Prairie in their group.”

By edging out those two teams, the Cougars vaulted themselves into sixth place to end the conference season.

They’ll play at the La Follette Cup on Thursday as they head toward postseason play.

“We’re going to start doing individual work,” Wiegel said. “It’s just kind of fine-tuning heading into the conference and the postseason. We’ve got a clear top six or seven, but it’s figuring out who’s going to be that fifth golfer.”
