Six students from Parkview Elementary School took part in the Regional Modern Woodmen Oratorical Contest on April 8 at Madison Elementary School in Janesville.

A total of 15 students in grades five, six and seven from four different schools competed for a chance to go on to the state competition. Only three are chosen for the next level of competition. All three of those chosen to move on were Parkview students.

First place went to Sarah Olin, second place went to Grace Groetken and third place went to Jessica Brabandt.

The three competed in Janesville at St. John Vianney School on May 9, in the Level 3 State Competition.

The Modern Woodmen contest provides a method for students to learn the skills of public speaking and project research.

All students in fifth and sixth grade research and write a speech as part of their class work. Each student presents their speech in their classroom and the top three from each class present their speeches to a panel of judges from the community. The top three for each grade in the school competition go on to the regional competition.
