UW-Whitewater softball advances to NCAA super regional

CHICAGO—Needing two wins over Benedictine to win an NCAA Division III softball regional title, Kelly McGrail and Samie Seamon helped power the Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks past the Eagles.

Benedictine beat Whitewater 4-2 on Friday and entered play Sunday undefeated and in prime position to advance to the super regional.

McGrail, named the regional’s most outstanding player, had five hits in Sunday’s two games, including an RBI single in the five-run sixth inning of Whitewater’s 7-5 win in game one. She then opened the scoring in game two with a solo home run in the fourth inning. Seamon and Morgan Krisch also hit solo shots in the 5-2 decision.

Next up for the Warhawks is NCAA super regional competition May 16 and 17 at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, Illinois.
