Parker baseball's winning streak reaches double digits
JANESVILLE--Janesville Parker’s baseball team ran its winning streak to 10 Thursday afternoon with another dominating performance.
Cullen Osmond had three hits and scored three runs, while Zach Bailey drove in three runs to lead the Vikings to a 9-4 win over Madison Memorial in a Big Eight Conference game at Riverside Park.
Parker got six solid innings from starter Darin Brewster in improving to 10-0 in the conference and alone in first place. The Vikings are 11-1 overall.
Memorial cut a 6-0 Parker lead to 6-4 with four runs in the top of the third, but Brewster settled down after that. The right-hander shut down the Spartans through the sixth before Logan Coulter came on to pitch a scoreless seventh.
“We haven’t given up an inning like that all year like we did in the third, so it was good to see us bounce back from a little adversity,” Parker coach Brian Martin said. “Darin didn’t have his best stuff, but he made pitches when he had to.”
Parker jumped on Memorial right away with two runs in the first. Osmond doubled to lead off the first, moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Bailey’s RBI groundout. Coulter then singled, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on Will Theisen’s RBI single.
The Vikings added four more runs in the second. Bailey’s two-run double keyed the rally.
Memorial got within two in the third, but Parker responded with a run in the bottom of the inning and two more in the sixth.
“We’ve swung the bats well all year and continued that trend today,” Martin said. “We had 11 hits, and once again got good contributions up and down the lineup.
“We’re still taking it one game at a time, though. We’re not celebrating anything yet other than we’ve played good ball thus far, and our record reflects that.”
Parker plays at Middleton at 11 a.m. on Saturday followed by a nonconference game against Sheboygan South at 1 p.m.
