JANESVILLE--Bill McCabe had a simple message for his team Tuesday night.

All the Janesville Craig girls soccer coach told his players was to go out and play the way they practice.

The Cougars got the message loud and clear as they responded with a 5-4 win over Beloit Memorial in a Big Eight Conference game.

Craig picked up its first conference win despite blowing an early 4-0 lead. Sommer Goicoechea got the game-winner for Craig with an unassisted goal at 53:55.

“I simply said they'd have a chance to win if they played like they had been practicing, and that's what happened,” McCabe said. “We changed some things up before the start of the game and really played well the first half.

“This would've been a tough one to lose with a 4-0 lead, but Sommer made a real nice play on the last goal.”

Craig got first-half goals from Sammi Champion, Goicoechea, and two from Goicoechea's sister, Savannah.

The Cougars play at Madison La Follette on Thursday night.
