JANESVILLE—Janesville police reported finding a body at 5:45 a.m. Monday behind a building south of Traxler Park, and they're worried more bodies remain to be found.

Residents are being asked to supply any information that could help the investigation.

The body is that of a female who is "significantly younger" than Mary Coulthard, a 75-year-old Janesville woman reported missing Saturday, Police Chief Dave Moore said at an 11 a.m. press conference.

Moore called the body and the missing person case "perhaps unrelated."

Moore did not have an identity for the woman and would not say if there was any indication of how she died.

Police said there may be a connection between the body and Clayton J. Courtney, who was arrested after an altercation with roommates on North Pontiac Drive on Sunday night.

Courtney is accused of repeatedly stabbing one roommate.

Police learned that before the assault, Courtney had said "I've already killed three people tonight."

Courtney also reportedly told someone that he was going to meet a woman under the Veterans Memorial Bridge to do drugs, Moore said. That location is not far from where the body was found in an "enclave" behind the former Country Furniture by Schulers building at 533 N. Main St.

Also, Courtney was covered in blood and mud when he was arrested near the Pontiac Drive residence, and the mud was not consistent with the scene of the stabbing, Moore said.

Moore cautioned that the investigation is in its early stages.

"If we take Mr. Courtney at his word," then there could be bodies still undiscovered, Moore said.
