Habitat for Humanity Pound the Pavement 5K, 10K Run/Walk
When and where: 10K starts at 8 a.m., 5K starts at 8:10 a.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Home Depot, 3200 Deerfield Drive, Janesville. Both are chip-timed events.
Purpose of walk: It's to raise money and awareness for the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate, said Tammy McCaslin Krebs, event coordinator.
“It's the largest fundraiser we have for Habitat of Rock and Jefferson counties so we have money to build homes,” she said.
Two habitat homes here are under construction—one in Janesville and one in Watertown.
“We don't start building a home until we have the money or donated supplies in hand,” McCaslin Krebs said.
“Homes are funded before they start to be built. So the funds we'll bring in will be for future homes for Rock and Jefferson counties,” she said.
McCaslin Krebs also said Habitat has a difficult time finding families for the homes it builds.
Pound the Pavement creates awareness in communities that the local affiliate serves so they know Habitat is building homes.
“We realize there are people in need, and we want to help them,” she said.
