Six stores caught selling alcohol to underage adults
JANESVILLE—Six liquor stores sold alcoholic beverages to underage people during a sting recently conducted by Rock County sheriff's deputies with the help of Janesville Mobilization 4 Change.
The checks, conducted Wednesday, are intended to avert underage drinking, according to a sheriff's office press release.
Underage adults entered businesses and tried to buy alcoholic beverages. Businesses and staff caught selling to the underage buyers were issued municipal citations with fines of $452.
Caught in the sting were Lions Quick Mart, 1620 W. Highway 14, Janesville; Footville Mini-Mart, 509 S. Gilbert St., Footville; County Line Beverage, 4141 S. County Trunk T, Brodhead; Jakes Mobile, 6501 S. Highway 51, Janesville; Carl's Shell, 11180 N. Goede Road, Edgerton; Lucy's Hideaway, 5847 E. County Trunk N, Milton.
Sheriff's personnel will meet with these businesses to educate staff on the seriousness of the illegal sales, according to the news release.
Five businesses passed the test: Newville Mobile, 581 E. Richardson Springs Road, Edgerton; Mickey's Cellar Tavern, 11140 North Ridge Road, Edgerton; Snuffy's Inn, 3538 E. County N, Milton; Highway Hummers, 3226 E. County S, Beloit; and The Little Store, 11744 S. County K, Beloit.
