What it is: Design plans for the new pool at Sunset Park have been finalized at the committee level. Now, the Elkhorn City Council needs to approve them at a May meeting to keep the project on schedule.

In a non-binding referendum in November, Elkhorn residents voted in favor of replacing the deteriorating and outdated park pool.

The designs include several items from the wish list created by several community members, aldermen and city staff. Among things included are a zero-depth entry, wheelchair-accessible ramp, slides, new bath houses, a concession stand accessible by people inside and outside pool grounds, six lap lanes and two diving boards.

Space has been allocated for potential splash pads.

What's the progress: Soil has been sampled; a consulting firm has been chosen, and an April community meeting was held. Now, design plans need to be finalized and bids sent out before construction starts in August.

Budget:$3.5 million. Funds will come from the city's $7.5 million capital improvements budget.

Projected completion date: Summer 2015
