The Janesville Craig boys tennis team got in the win column Thursday night.

The Cougars swept doubles play on their way to a 5-2 Big Eight Conference victory over Beloit Memorial.

“After going up against Verona yesterday, I told the boys to be aggressive,” Craig coach Justin Long said. “For most of the match, they were. We had a couple letdowns in the second sets, but the majority of the time we got our mental game taken care of.”

The doubles teams all won in straight sets, led by the No. 1 duo of Adam Masters and Jimmy Flynn winning 6-0, 7-5.

In singles, Craig’s No. 1, Izaya Turenne, topped Beloit’s Blake Farr, 6-2, 6-3. The Cougars also got a victory at the No. 4 spot, with Ethan Eno finishing off the victory with a second-set tiebreaker.

“I was glad we were able to come out on top with our first win of the season in the Big Eight,” Long said. “Hopefully this is going to kickstart us moving forward.”

Milton and Sauk Prairie come to Janesville for a quadrangular with Craig and Janesville Parker, beginning at 2 p.m. at both Palmer Park and Parker High.
