UW-Whitewater Police Department to participate in Click It or Ticket campaign
WHITEWATER—UW-Whitewater police are participating in the annual Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign.
The safety campaign runs from May 19 to June 1.
In Wisconsin, about one in five drivers do not use seat belts. In 2013, more than half of drivers and passengers killed in traffic accidents in Wisconsin were not wearing seat belts. Last year, officers wrote more than 70,000 citations for failing to wear seat belts, according to a UW-Whitewater Police Department news release.
The goal is to educate people on the benefits of wearing seat belts, not to issue more tickets during the two-week campaign than any other time of the year.
"Through enforcement and education, we're striving to get people to buckle up every time they drive or ride in a vehicle," the release states.
