JANESVILLE—Area residents still have time to be part of a Janesville walk to raise money for the Wisconsin Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society on Sunday, May 4.

They can sign up online until noon Thursday or at the event.

About 700 people are expected to take part at Janesville's Palmer Park, 2501 Palmer Dr. The goal is to raise $75,000 to support national research and local services for more than 11,000 people with MS in Wisconsin.

People with MS and others also will raise awareness about the disease, in which the body's immune system mistakenly attacks myelin, the protective coating around nerve fibers in the central nervous system.

Check-in begins at 9 a.m. The walk begins at 10 a.m. One- and three-mile routes are provided on wooded trails during the Star Wars-themed event. Kathy Schendt will lead pre-walk stretches.

For registration, visit www.walkMSwisconsin.org or call 1-800-242-3358.
