Celebrate Cinco de Mayo
Dancers, mariachi players and a jalapeno-eating contest will highlight the annual Cinco de Mayo party Saturday, May 3, in downtown Delavan.
The celebration recalls the outnumbered Mexican army's victory over French occupying forces on May 5, 1862, in the state of Puebla.
Activities run from 10 a.m.-8 p.m. in Tower Park, with vendors selling Mexican food and arts and crafts all day. For a complete schedule, visit delavancincodemayo.com.
… Then honor Mom
Rotary Botanical Gardens will team up with Best Events for a Mother's Day brunch—which includes a walk through the spring flowers—on Sunday, May 11, at the Janesville gardens, 1455 Palmer Drive.
Seatings are at 9-10:45 a.m., 11 a.m.-12:45 p.m. and 1-2:45 p.m. Tickets are $26.95 for adults, $12.95 for children ages 4-10 and free for children ages 3 and younger. Reservations must by made by Wednesday, May 7.

Meanwhile, the Badger Chordhawks Chorus will pay tribute to mothers with Mother's Day barbershop shows at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at the Janesville Performing Arts Center, 408 S. Main St.
Guest performers include the Super Nova Quartet, the 2013 Packerland Division champions, and the Kordal Kombat Quartet, the 2013 Land O' Lakes District and novice quartet champions. Tickets are $13-$15 in advance and $15-$17 at the door. Visit janesvillepac.org.

Tickets go on sale Thursday, May 1, for the Music by the Lake outdoor summer concert series, offered June 28 through Aug. 17 at George Williams College in Williams Bay.
This year's lineup runs the gamut from contemporary to classic rock to children's music. Artists include Blood, Sweat & Tears with Bo Bice (June 28); a Beatles 50th anniversary celebration with BritBeat (July 19); children's recording artist Laurie Berkner (July 27); the music of Elton John and Billy Joel in Jim Witter's “Piano Men” (Aug. 2); the Beach Boys (Aug. 9) and Andrews Sisters-inspired singing troupe Ladies for Liberty (Aug. 17).

Orchestra to perform
The Lake Geneva Symphony Orchestra will present “Strings Plus,” its third chamber music concert, at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 700 Bloomfield Road, Lake Geneva.
Two string quartets and featured players from the orchestra will perform. Admission is free.
Broadway in Elkhorn
Lakeland Players will wrap up their 40th season May 9-11 and 16-18 with “Best of Broadway,” a revue that features favorite songs and dances from past shows.
