Lawrence A. Van Dan, 79, of Elkhorn, WI, died Thursday, April 24, 2014, at Willowfield Nursing Home Delavan, WI. He was born July 18, 1934, in the Town of Delavan, WI, the son of the late Clarence H. and Muriel M. (Dickson) Van Dan. He graduated from Walworth High School. He served in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Leonardwood, MO; With a tour of duty in Germany, where he traveled the countryside at every opportunity. After returning to Wisconsin, Lawrence met Shirley Ann Knutson at the Walworth Theatre. He married the love of his life on July 1, 1961, and settled down in Fontana, WI. Lawrence worked for a time with Wisconsin Southern Gas Co. He and Shirley built "Bent Nail Acres", their homestead outside of Elkhorn, WI. Lawrence went to work for Wisconsin Oven Corporation of East Troy, WI. He enjoyed working there for over 26 years, retiring in 2004. Lawrence enjoyed fixing cars, deer hunting, traveling and time with his grandchildren. He especially liked working together with his sons on home projects. He and Shirley traveled all 48 contiguous states. They also spent time at their Patch Hill hobby farm in Richland County.

Lawrence is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Shirley; three sons: Jeffrey (Andrea) of Kansasville, WI, Thomas (Amy) of Sharon, WI, and John of Elkhorn, WI; one daughter-in-law, Alexandra of Delavan, WI; his nine grandchildren: Victoria, Vincent, Jeremiah, Sarah, Charlotte, Kathy (Devin Boss), Kelly, Samuel and Steven; two brothers, Raymond (Shelia) of Delavan, WI, and David (Margo) of Alden, IL; and by a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Charles.

Funeral service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, at HAASE-LOCKWOOD & ASSOCIATES FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 730 N. Wisconsin St., Elkhorn, WI, with Rev. Robert Neubert officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Friday at Roselawn Memory Gardens Cemetery in the Town of Delavan, WI. Visitation will be at the FUNERAL HOME on Thursday from 3 p.m. until time of service.
