EVANSVILLE—Rep. Janis Ringhand, D-Evansville, endorsed Mark Spreitzer in his campaign to succeed her in the Wisconsin State Assembly representing the 45th District.

Ringhand is vacating the seat to run for the 15th Senate District.

Ringhand was first elected to the 80th Assembly District and was re-elected to represent the 45th District in 2012. She previously served as mayor and alderwoman in Evansville.

“I have known Mark for several years, and over the past two years I have been lucky enough to work directly with him since I was elected to represent the 45th Assembly District in 2012,” Ringhand said. “As a former alderwoman myself, I know that Mark's experience on the Beloit City Council and his role as council president have prepared him well for this position, and I am proud to endorse his state Assembly candidacy.”

Spreitzer faces fellow Beloit City Council member Sheila De Forest in the Democratic primary for the 45th District on Aug. 12.

Spreitzer's endorsements include former state Senate Majority Leader Judy Robson and former Reps. Dan Schooff, Chuck Benedict and Kim Hixson.
