JANESVILLE—The bats were silent Saturday afternoon for Janesville Parker's softball team.

The Vikings managed only one hit in losing a Big Eight doubleheader to Madison East.

East's Anna Dolphin no-hit Parker in game one as the Purgolders cruised to a 16-0 win in five innings. Kelly Austin allowed only one hit in game two as East won 10-0.

Parker fell to 0-7 in conference play.

“A lot of our girls just don't have the experience of playing at the varsity level like a lot of other teams have,” Parker first-year coach Allison Driscoll said.

“Our defense was much better today, though. We reduced our errors. But we're not hitting the ball very well right now.”

Parker plays a doubleheader at Madison West on Tuesday.

• Craig splits with Beloit—Julia Humphrey pitched a complete game to lead the Cougars to a 7-5 win over Beloit Memorial and a split of the Big Eight Conference doubleheader.

Beloit won the first game 9-8 thanks to six Craig errors.

“We can look really good at times, and other times, we really struggle,” Craig coach Dan Bayreuther said. “And that was the case today. You’re not going to beat a lot of teams with six errors.

“The second game we played much better and were able to take advantage of three Beloit errors.”

Al Hughes had two doubles for Craig in game one, but Beloit rallied from a 7-2 deficit and won it with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Craig (6-4, 5-4) broke a 3-3 tie in game two with three unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Humphrey, a freshman, allowed six hits and did not walk a batter.

Craig hosts Madison La Follette on Tuesday afternoon.
