JANESVILLE-The city's inaugural Celebration of Birds will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Riverside Park, 2600 Parkside Drive.

Janesville was named a Bird City by Bird City Wisconsin in November 2013, through the efforts of the Bird City Janesville Planning Team.

The event will feature guided bird walks, a presentation by Christy Marsden of UW Extension about improving backyard habitats, photo contest displays and activities to learn bird identification by sight and song.

Bluebird and kestrel houses also will be available, along with food for purchase from Friends of Riverside Park.

Children will be able to participate in trivia quizzes, make origami birds, learn about different types of beaks and food sources and listen to bird songs.
