Verona uses early goals to top Craig
The Verona girls soccer team blitzed Janesville Craig right out of the gate Thursday night.
Felicia Retrum scored three times in the first 18 minutes, including once less than a minute into the match, and the Wildcats topped the visiting Cougars 7-1 in a Big Eight Conference tilt.
“We had a sluggish warmup, and it showed right from the get go,” Craig coach Bill McCabe said. “We finally scored on them after they scored four. Everything seemed to be turning our way, but the problem is that the chain breaks at a certain point.
“The passes were connecting, but then all of the sudden, something breaks down. It’s something we have to correct as coaches.”
Senior Savannah Goicochea scored the Cougars’ lone goal in the 29th minute.
Craig hosts a quadrangular today and Saturday. Green Bay East and Elkhorn play at 5 p.m. today, followed by the Cougars against Tomah at 7.
