Fred D. Gunderson, 72, of Clinton, WI, died on Thursday, April 17, 2014, at home after a long battle with cancer. Fred was born on July 22, 1941, the son of Arthur and Florence (Egery) Gunderson, in Beloit, and graduated from Clinton High School in 1959. Fred married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Hodd, on July 27, 1959, in Clinton, WI. Fred and Evie resided in Clinton, and that is where they started their Registered Hampshire, Chester White and Crossbred hog farm. Fred was an active 4-H member and was a 4-H leader for over 22 years. He raised and exhibited several champion hogs at the county and state fairs. In 1977, he was named The Jaycee's Outstanding Young Farmer, WI State Pork All-American and went on to receive the National Pork All-American award. Fred also served on the Pork Producers board and was secretary/treasurer for the Wisconsin Hampshire Association. He also drove the Clinton School bus for years and enjoyed all the kids on the bus.

Fred enjoyed spending time outside on the farm and doing field work. His favorite time was the summer when he could attend local fairs. He was a jokester and enjoyed playing cards and spending time with his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family.

Fred is survived by his wife, Evelyn; his children: Scott Gunderson of Clinton, WI, Debbie (Arlen) Butts of Evansville, WI, Kathy (Paul) Hoffman of Clinton, WI, and Dan (Lois) Gunderson of Clinton, WI. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Rob and Mike Gunderson, Kayla Woods, Austin, Tyson and Ashley Butts, Steven and Kevin Hoffman, Shalanna Nichols and Justin Gunderson; his great-grandchildren: Ella, Owen, Ethan, Hailey, Abbey, Grace, Brooke and Trevor; his siblings, Berwyn Gunderson and Phyllis Harris; his sisters-in-law: Mary Ann (Jack) Winchester, Mary Adair Gunderson, Bernice Gunderson; several nieces and nephews; and two special dogs, Max and Penny. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Russell and Buell Gunderson; sister, Elgeva Clowes; great-granddaughter, Hanna Rae Gunderson; sister-in-law, Barbara Gunderson; and brothers-in-law: Everett Hodd, Laurel Clowes and Tom Harris.

Fred’s Memorial services will be held at EMERALD GROVE CHURCH, 8127 E US Hwy 14, Janesville, WI, on Monday, April 21, 2014, at 11 a.m. with Pastor Mike Ligman officiating. Visitation will be held at the DALEY MURPHY WISCH FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORIUM from 5 until 7 p.m. Sunday, April 20, 2014. Visitation will also be from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the CHURCH.

Memorials may be given to the Clinton Community Historical Society (Cobblestone House) and Beloit Regional Hospice.
