November 14, 1924 - March 25, 2014
Jean Marie Meicher, Bloomfield Hills, MI, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Pontiac, MI. She was born on Nov. 14, 1924, the daughter of George R. and Gertrude (Suhr) Viney. She attended St. Patrick's School in Janesville, from kindergarten through ninth grade. She, then, attended Janesville High School and graduated with the class of 1942. She was involved in different school activities and was a member of National Honor Society. After graduation, she was employed as a secretary at the Parker Pen Company for a few years. She wanted to further her studies so she went to Madison, where she enrolled at Edgewood College. It was at Edgewood College that she met her future husband, Paul W. Meicher. He predeceased her in 2005. After graduating, she returned to Janesville, and again was employed as an executive secretary to the Vice President of Sales at the Parker Pen Company. Jean Marie and Paul W. Meicher were married in July 1948, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Janesville. Together they raised five children. Jean Marie was always interested in history and ancestry. In the 1960's, she became an accomplished genealogist, tracing her family back through the Bible and the Old Testament. She was always proud that she was able to help other people with their ancestry. When others couldn't find things, she always did. She was always proud to learn that her paternal grandparents came to Janesville in the 1840's (Briggs, Viney, Cronin and Powers), mostly settling in the former Springbrook Area. In 1965, her husband, Paul, was transferred to the executive offices at the Fisher Body Plant in Warren, MI. The family moved to Bloomfield Hills, MI, where she lived for 49 years.
Jean Marie was an accomplished bridge player and played three times a week with three different groups of people. She also loved to travel and was proud that she visited all fifty states. She also enjoyed her many trips to Europe and sailing the Baltic Sea. She was proud of the fact that at age 85, she climbed the stairs and kissed the Blarney Stone. Also, at the age of 86, she climbed the Devil's Staircase at Riverside Park on one of her visits to Janesville.
Jean Marie is survived by her five children: David Meicher of Janesville, WI, Daniel (Pam) Meicher of Grand Blanc, MI, Timothy (Anneke) Meicher of Simi Valley, CA, Maryann (Eric) Schiehsl of Oxford, MI, and Paul Meicher, Jr., of Clawson, MI; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, JoAnn Schmitz of Janesville; a brother-in-law, Bernard Meicher of Indiana; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Gertrude Viney; and her husband, Paul W. Meicher.
Jean Marie always called Wisconsin her home and knew that some day she would return home to Janesville, to be with her ancestors at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Cremation services were conducted at MODETZ FUNERAL HOME in Orion, MI. Graveside services will be held at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Janesville, WI, at a later date.
