The Janesville Craig girls soccer team saw progress in a loss Thursday night despite playing without two of its top midfielders.

Madison East scored twice in the opening 22 minutes to beat the Cougars 2-0 in a Big Eight Conference match.

“We played with only one substitute, but the girls are starting to get it,” Craig coach Bill McCabe said. “We knew a turnaround was going to happen. Win, lose or draw, we feel like we’re starting to be on the same page.”

Haley Havens and Jamie Rozzell scored fro the Purgolders.

McCabe credited defender Morgan Kemp with a solid game at the back. East had just five shots on goal.

Craig hosts Madison West at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

•  Parker falls in nonconference match—Lizzy Burrow scored twice to lead Lake Mills to a 2-1 victory in a nonconference girls soccer match.

“We played a lot better tonight than we did Tuesday night,” Parker coach Steve Strieker said. “We’ve had to bring some JV players up, and Cassady is just a freshman, so that was a pleasant surprise.”

Burrow put Lake Mills ahead for good in the opening minutes of the second half when she collected a crossing pass, made a move and scored.

Becky Harmata had 15 saves for the Vikings, who play at Madison Memorial at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
