Hubert “Hubie” W. Vickers, age 71, of Brodhead, passed away on Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Monroe Clinic Hospital, Monroe, WI. He was born on May 1, 1942, in Wayne Township, Lafayette County, WI, the son of Earl and Lucille (Broege) Vickers. He married Rita Ringhand on Aug. 22, 1964, in Monroe. Hubie attended Monroe and Monticello schools, graduating in 1960 from New Glarus High School. He, then, attended MATC. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Brodhead. Hubie had worked for Karlen Lumber Co. and Voegeli Chevrolet, Monticello, WI. He also had worked for General Motors of Janesville, for 30 years, retiring in 1996. Hubie also owned and operated 'Vickers Sports Shop' for over 40 years.

Hubie was very active in the City of Brodhead Government, serving on the City Council for a numbers of years and was currently serving as its President. Hubie enjoyed fishing, hunting all kinds of wildlife and morel mushrooms, motorcycle trips, and traveling. He and Rita had traveled to Italy, Dubai, AbuDhabi, cruises to Alaska, Hawaii, and several to the Caribbean. Truthfulness, honesty and fairness were very important to him, as well as spending time with his grandchildren, and visiting with his friends, sharing stories and life experiences, and offering his opinion. He did volunteer driving for Evansville Manor residents outings and enjoyed visiting with them. He was the 'go-to fix it person' who enjoyed the challenge to tinker and salvage something. He also enjoyed reading Louis Lamour books, watching TV westerns, working on his lawn and the dogs he owned over the years. He was a member of the UAW and Lifetime member of the NRA. He wanted to enjoy the things he could now and not put them off. His favorite saying to get people moving, “The bus is leaving” and now, the bus has left.

Hubie is survived by his wife, Rita; two sons, Michael (Charity) Vickers of Brodhead, WI, Daniel Vickers of Milton, WI; five grandchildren: Bailee, Ashton, Natalie, Abigail and Mallory Vickers; three sisters, Donna (Roger) Stoll of Belleville, WI, Sandra (Michael) Ritschard, Bonnie (Calvin) Soddy, both of Juda, WI; three brothers: Robert (Carol Marie) Vickers, LaFayette of TN, Wesley (Diane) Vickers of Janesville, WI, James (Stephanie) Vickers of Harshaw, WI; a brother-in-law, Randall (Gloria) Ringhand of Monroe, WI; in-laws, Walter and Bernadine Ringhand of Monroe, WI; and numerous nieces and nephews.
