July 24, 1925 - April 9, 2014

Robert W. Scholz died Wednesday morning, April 9, 2014, at Cedar Crest Nursing home in Janesville, WI, at the age of 88. Pop was born in Oak Park, IL, on July 24, 1925. Following graduation from high school in 1943, he served in the United States Navy. Notably, he served in the Pacific Theater and participated in one of the largest naval engagements in U.S. history at the battle of Leyte Gulf. Following his discharge from active service, Pop attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. However, before graduating, he was smitten by our lovely mother, Carolyn Kueck, and the two were married in Brodhead, WI, on Jan. 13, 1950. Working at WBEL during the 1950s and 60s, Pop hosted the popular "There's No Business Like Scholz Business" radio show. Pop moved on to WGEZ, Caravilla Nursing Home and the Beloit Daily News. He eventually was hired as an original employee for the fledgling Beloit Shopping News. In 1992, he retired after a long and successful working life. Pop was a longtime member of Sun Valley Presbyterian Church, where he sang in the choir which Mom directed. He was a member of the Beloit Kiwanis Club, serving one term as President and also a member of the Ambassador's Club of the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce. He and Mom enjoyed their retirement years traveling and spending fun time with family and their many dear friends until Mom's death in 2000. In September 2001, Pop moved to Cedar Crest. He participated in many of the activities organized by the residents and Cedar Crest Staff.

Robert is survived by two sons, Larry (Terri) Scholz of Beloit, WI, and Kenneth (Robin Oliver) Scholz of Winter Springs, FL; three granddaughters: Kerri (Brian) Fei, Allison Watts, Bethany (Martine) Estrada; as well as great-grandsons: Sean, Jack and Logan Fei. Pop was preceded in death by his devoted wife, our beloved mother, Carolyn; and loving and adored daughter, Barbara.

Pop was provided with outstanding care by the staff both at Cedar Crest and Agrace Hospice.
