DARIEN — The downtown redevelopment project in Darien kicked into high gear the past couple of weeks with the demolition of several buildings. The village will be consolidating its village hall and police department into one expanded facility. The effort includes remodeling of the existing village-owned building and construction of a new addition. Village officials and local leaders are using the municipal building as a way to begin revitalization of the downtown.

The village's Community Development Authority received a $1.47 million community facilities direct loan from USDA's Rural Development program and a $50,000 community development investment grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.

For more photos of the construction, see the upcoming April 13 print or e-edition of Walworth County Sunday.
