JANESVILLE—Damage estimates and a cause have not been determined for a fire late Wednesday that damaged a home on Janesville's northwest side.

Janesville Fire Capt. John McManus said crews were dispatched at 11:47 p.m. to 1516 Manor Drive, where crackling and popping awakened a family. Upon further investigation, smoke detectors sounded, and the family found its garage engulfed in flames.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire, which had spread into the attic, McManus said. The home is uninhabitable, he said.

McManus said two family members were treated and released at a local hospital.

The investigation into the cause continues, he said.
