Kristin Ann Uglow, Janesville, WI/Apache Junction, AZ (1937-2014)
December 13, 1937 – March 20, 2014
Kristin Ann Uglow, age 76, of Janesville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 20, 2014, at her winter home in Arizona. She was born on Dec. 13, 1937, in Whitewater, WI, daughter of Kenneth and Thais (Scheler) Uglow. Kris graduated from Whitewater City High School, class of 1955, where she loved playing clarinet in the High School Marching Band. She went on to Whitewater College, where she received her Accounting Degree. That degree took her many places across the United States. She started at the phone company in Janesville, then on to Chicago, from there she went to Oakland, CA, and then back to Wisconsin. She drove the many miles from California to Janesville, and back to California, alone in her trusty Studebaker, Mother never liked that. She finally came home to Janesville, where she worked at two car dealerships and then retired from Woodman’s Offices after working there 15 years. She enjoyed everyone that she worked with. She was also very proud to own her home in Janesville, and, later, added a home in Apache Junction, AZ. That is where she spent her winters starting in 2001. Kris was a lifelong member of the Christian Science Church.
In her early years, Kris loved being active. She played softball for many years and was an avid bowler, a very good one too. She developed many lifelong friendships in those early years and they still hold up today. Kris loved most sports be it on TV or doing them with family and friends. Her favorites were the Green Bay Packers, of course, Brewers, and Chicago Bulls, loved that Michael “Air” Jordan. She also loved to play cards and games with family and friends. It was said that anytime you saw Kris she would likely be holding a fishing pole in one hand and a beer in the other. Many nieces and nephews recalled stories of Kris taking them fishing. Kris was a friend to everyone who knew her and she had a great circle of friends. At her home in Arizona, Kris was given a plaque noting her as the Official park greeter as she would sit outside everyday and wave to the people as they came and went from the park. People stopped everyday to chat.
Kris is survived by her loving, caring partner of 40 years, Joan Carlson; sisters: Jackie and Scott Geller, Suzanne Taylor, Jane and Gary Lueck; and one brother, Paul and Lana Steinke, all of Janesville. She is also survived by two very special and close friends, Kathy Klein and Donna Rusch. She is also survived by nine nieces, three nephews, 11 grandnieces, 15 grandnephews, two great-grandnieces and three more on the way. She was preceded in death by her father, Kenneth Uglow; her mother, Thais (Scheler, Uglow) Steinke; her step father, Robert Steinke; and one sister, Mary Jane Zigle. She was loved and cherished by all who knew her and her friends were very precious to her.
The family will be having a celebration of Kris’s life at a later date.
