Jimmy Buffett to play in East Troy this summer

Buffett show is Aug. 23

Now you know summer is coming: There's news of a Jimmy Buffett show at Alpine Valley Music Theatre.

Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band will play the East Troy outdoor amphitheater at 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 23.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday, April 14. No word yet on ticket prices.

Buffett's most recent album of new songs, 2013's “Songs From St. Somewhere,” includes the single “Too Drunk to Karaoke,” a duet with country star Toby Keith.

JPAC plans Family Fest

“Come and Play!” is the theme of the Janesville Performing Arts Center's first Family Fest from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, at JPAC, 408 S. Main St.

The event promises family-friendly activities, door prizes, local artists and a community art project. Admission is free.

At 2 p.m., the arts center and Culver's Family Series will present “Music Makes the World Go Round,” a show featuring singing, musical instruments and hands-on activities with Diane Michaels. Tickets are $4 for adults and students; children younger than 3 get in free.

Calling all egg hunters

The Knights of Columbus at St. William Church will sponsor a free Easter egg hunt Saturday, April 19, on the grounds of the Lincoln-Tallman House, 440 S. Jackson St., Janesville.

Children's games, face painting and photos with the Easter Bunny will be offered from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The egg hunt will be timed to correspond with the hunters' ages (ages 4 and younger, 11:15 a.m.; ages 5-6, 11:30 a.m.; ages 7-8, 11:45 a.m.; ages 9-10, noon). Eggs will be exchanged for goodie bags at the hunt's end.

Parents are asked to bring a canned food donation for ECHO.

Learn to paint a classic

Maybe you love Van Gogh's “Starry Night” but can't afford to own the original painting—or even a replica.

Artist Val Saxer will show amateurs how to paint “Starry Night” during an “open canvas” event from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, at Saxer's downtown studio at 17 N. Main St., Janesville. A similar event will be offered from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, April 26. Admission is $50.

Concert/dance helps ECHO

Get'n Down on High Street, the annual musical fundraiser for ECHO, will kick off at 7 p.m. Friday, April 11, at the Armory, 10 S. High St., Janesville.

The event features classic rock by Grey Matter Mechanics, a silent auction, cash bar and appetizers.
