Deputies make arrest in 1997 murder of 14-year-old girl

RACINE COUNTY — Racine County Sheriff's Office deputies have arrested a 36-year-old Illinois man in connection with the sexual assault and  death of  a 14-year-old Palatine, Ill., girl whose body was found in a Town of Burlington marsh in 1997, according to a story in the Racine Journal Times.

Deputies have not yet released the name of the man.

The body of Amber Creek, a runaway, was found in the Karcher Wildlife Area in February of 1997 by two men looking for hunting sites. Investigators determined the girl had been sexually assaulted and suffocated with a plastic bag. Her body was posed with her hand upraised, showing the word “HI” written on a palm.
