Town of Turtle battles grass fire
TOWN OF TURTLE—A fire that started with a gardener burning debris in an asparagus patch quickly burned out of control Saturday and involved four fire departments.
No one was hurt, and no property was damaged in the fire, which broke out around 3:30 p.m. in the 8000 block of South Butterfly Road, said Turtle Fire Chief Tim Huffman.
The fire was burning about one-quarter acre, but the wind picked up and turned it into a two-acre grass fire within about two minutes, Huffman said.
“It just went crazy,” Huffman said.
A fire engine was positioned to protect a nearby house. The Beloit, town of Beloit and Clinton fire departments were called in to assist.
The fire was out at about 4:45 p.m.
